Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering

EE

About the Department

The department has a history of producing students who graduate with excellent performance in the Examinations conducted by the University of Kerala and A P J Abdul Kalam Kerala Technological University. Majority of the eligible students are placed in various reputed National and International companies through campus placement drive of Career Guidance and Placement Unit of the college. Several students qualify for PG programs in IITs, NITs IIMs and top ranked foreign universities.

The programme curriculum is designed to provide engineering graduates adequate knowledge and skills required for a successful carrier in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The department takes special efforts in imparting value added technical education to the students. Continuous efforts are also being made to arrange lectures in advanced areas of Electrical and Electronics Engineering by eminent professors from IITs, NITs, IISc, IIST and experienced technical experts from industries like KSEB, KELTRON, VSSC, ER & DC, Electrical Inspectorate, Energy Management Centre etc. Along with the curriculum they are provided with analytical training by introducing different simulation packages like SIMULINK, etap, MiPower etc.

The M.Tech. course in Power Systems and Control is aimed at introducing latest development in the field Power Systems with due importance to Control Systems. Developments in smart grid technology, The department also gives emphasis to extracurricular activities of the students by training them for improving their leadership qualities, presentation skills, organizing skills etc from the entry level itself.

Program Educational Objectives

PEO 1

To mould graduates well versed in various engineering concepts and make them capable of pursuing higher education by imbibing knowledge on applied mathematics, fundamental sciences and engineering principles.

PEO 2

To nurture socially committed professional team players with multidisciplinary talents, values, ethics, and communication skills to bridge the gap between engineering knowledge and societal needs.

PEO 3

To provide an excellent environment that fosters creativity, lifelong learning and leadership qualities which enables the students to contribute in the area of research and development as anticipated by the industry and the academia.

PEO 4

To impart broad and in-depth knowledge of Electrical and Electronics Engineering to address various technological challenges with focus on sustainable development.

Programme Outcomes

The Graduates Graduate students of Information Technology stream should have the following skills and abilities :

i Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
ii Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
iii Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
iv Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
v Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
vi The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
vii Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
viii Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
ix Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
x Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
xi Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
xi Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

Programme Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

i Identify technical issues related to generation, transmission, and distribution of electric power and propose alternative feasible solutions.
ii Attain technical competence and confidence in design, develop, test, and implement Electrical & Electronics systems applying state-of-art technology with appropriate methods and tools.
